Open Call: Ubuntu International Art Residency – Uganda
Ubuntu Art Residency invites artists, designers, writers, filmmakers, choreographers, researchers, and creative entrepreneurs from around the world to apply for a transformative residency in the heart of the lush Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom, western Uganda—celebrated as The Pearl of Africa.
Surrounded by ancient forests, crystal-clear rivers, vibrant wildlife, and welcoming rural communities, Ubuntu offers total immersion in a preserved ecosystem. Here, ancestral traditions and contemporary innovation converge, providing a unique crossroads for creative minds seeking authentic inspiration and intercultural exchange.
About the Residency
Ubuntu’s mission is to support and promote research and artistic creation through an interdisciplinary, intercultural, and intersectoral approach. Our residency is a dynamic space for experimentation, dialogue, and collaboration, where artists and thinkers from diverse backgrounds come together to push the boundaries of their disciplines and enrich each other’s practices.

Residency Focus Areas
Applicants are encouraged to propose projects that engage with one or more of the following axes:

Art and Environmental Humanity:
Land art, ecological art, eco-design, eco-criticism, and promotion of natural and cultural heritage. -
Community and Interculturality:
Relational, participatory, and social practice; women’s empowerment; and the exchange of traditional and innovative know-how. -
Interdisciplinarity and Intersectorality:
Collaborative practices between artists, researchers, and professionals; dialogue between art forms; and intersections of art, science, engineering, and digital humanities.

Artists should budget for travel, supplies, food, and personal expenses, as they are not included in the residency fee
