UBUNTU ART RESIDENCY
MASINDI, UGANDA
A multidisciplinary Space for Artistic Inquiry & Creation

Who We Are
Ubuntu Art Residency is a multidisciplinary space in Masindi, Uganda, where interdisciplinary exchange is invited, not required. We support environment and community-led artistic inquiry connecting practitioners with the landscapes, histories, and knowledge of the Bunyoro-Kitara region through respectful, non-extractive exchange.
The residency is self-directed. There is no fixed schedule, no production target and no required outcome. Practitioners work at their own pace, responsively, with the house, the garden and the landscape around them.
We welcome visual artists, curators, writers, designers, architects, makers and researchers — practitioners whose work responds to landscape, community, history and environment.
What We Support
Practice at Ubuntu gathers around three axes.
-
Environmental — Site-responsive and place-based practice; land and ecological art; eco-design and eco-criticism; cultural responses to ecological change and heritage.
-
Interdisciplinary — Practice that moves between disciplines, methods and sectors: art, design, performance, film, literature, science and technology, all in dialogue.
-
Community — Relational and socially engaged practice; intercultural exchange; community-based inquiry, grounded in care, reciprocity and consent.
Practitioners are not required to work within a single axis.
We also welcome enquiries from institutions and organisations interested in collaborating.
